Karl S. Brehmer

Karl is the managing partner of Brehmer Law Firm. Karl grew up on his family’s farm in Newberry, South Carolina, and incorporated his family’s values of honesty and hard work into his career as a prominent trial lawyer in South Carolina. Throughout his time in practice, Karl has made a name for himself for his aggressive yet tactful approach to representing his clients both in and out of the courtroom to ensure that his client’s needs are fairly represented.

Karl is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. During his time at the University of South Carolina, Karl was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma – National Freshman Honor Society for outstanding performance in the classroom. Karl went on to obtain Dean’s List honors all eight semesters of his undergraduate education, graduated as a President’s Scholar, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. After completing his college education, Karl turned to the University of South Carolina School of Law and School of Business, where he earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees in 1989.

After law school, Karl started his legal career in 1989 at Brown and Woods as a young associate, where he began developing his craft as a trial lawyer in South Carolina. Since then, Brown and Woods transitioned to Brown and Brehmer and now the Brehmer Law Firm. Over the course of his career, Karl has been involved in civil litigation work across the board, ranging from insurance defense to Plaintiff’s personal injury, products liability, medical malpractice, wrongful death, trucking litigation, and more to develop a wide array of experience in South Carolina’s civil courts.

Karl is admitted to practice law in South Carolina, the District Court of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Karl is AV-rated, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and recognized by Super Lawyers for his devotion and commitment to seeking the best possible result for his clients.

Karl is married to his wife, Debbie, and has two sons, Thomas and Andrew. During his free time, Karl enjoys spending time with his family and the family dog, Maggie, and can often be found at his family’s farm, where he enjoys hunting, fishing, and running his tractor.

Andrew C. Brehmer

Andrew was born and raised in Irmo, South Carolina, where he attended Dutch Fork High School. In high school, Andrew was a member of the football team while also being involved in the school’s visual arts program.

After high school, Andrew attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics with a Minor in Studio Art in 2019. Throughout his years as a student, Andrew was part of the Orientation Staff, where he assisted incoming freshmen students in adjusting to a new phase of life away from home. He was selected as a William Light Kinney Scholarship Recipient in 2017 and a D. Mark Anderson Award Recipient in 2019. Upon graduation, he received the Heart of the Terrier Award, which is given to students who have made a positive and measurable difference on the campus and excelled in scholarship, leadership, campus citizenship, and service. Also, Andrew is a member of Wofford’s Senior Order of the Gnomes, which was established as an organization of senior students who promote high moral character and goals throughout the entire student body, especially in the underclassmen.

Andrew then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and Darla Moore School of Business, where he earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees in 2022. While in law school, Andrew was a member of the Mock Trial program and was a member of both the 2021 and 2022 American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition. In addition, Andrew received the Sherod H. Eadon Scholarship Award for academic excellence, integrity, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

During his time at the University of South Carolina, Andrew clerked for Goings Law Firm beginning in 2020, where he remained throughout the duration of his time as a law student. Upon graduation in December 2022, Andrew passed the South Carolina Bar exam in February 2023 and decided to return to working alongside his father, Karl, as an attorney with Brown and Brehmer.

Andrew’s wife, Hayley, is also a Dutch Fork High School and Wofford College alumnus. Following their time at Wofford, she went on to attend Wake Forest University School of Business, where she received her Master of Science in Management degree. The two have been together since their senior year of high school. In his spare time, you can find Andrew spending time with his wife and their two animals, his family, hunting, or working in the yard.

L. Darby Plexico, III

Darby was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina.  He attended Irmo High School and graduated in 1997.  While in high school, he played soccer and was the Salutatorian of his senior class.

After high school, Darby received a full academic and athletic scholarship to attend Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics from Wofford in 2001.  He played soccer during his first year in college where Wofford began competing in the Southern Conference in Division 1.  He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  He was the Commander (President) of the fraternity his senior year.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

Darby attended law school at the University of South Carolina School of Law.  He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2004.  While in school, he clerked for Harris & Graves and Brown & Brehmer.  Upon completion of law school, Darby passed the South Carolina Bar exam in July 2004.  He was inducted into the Bar in November 2004.

Upon his induction into the Bar, Darby has been an attorney with Brown & Brehmer for the past 19 years.  He concentrates his practice on insurance defense litigation and advising insurance carriers on all aspects of claims.  His areas of focus include personal and commercial lines, transportation, hospitality, and construction.

Darby’s wife, Stefanie, grew up in the Midlands and attended Spring Valley High School in Columbia.  She graduated from Wofford College and the Medical School of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, where she received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.  The couple live in Forest Acres and have three children.  In his free time, Darby enjoys attending Gamecock sporting events, playing golf, and watching and coaching his children in soccer.
